Unipart Merchandise automates Direct Debit processes to ensure compliance and save £50,000 a year.
The Unipart Group is a leading UK full-service logistics provider that also delivers consultancy services in operational excellence and supply chain. Unipart Merchandise, a subsidiary of the group, provides a wide range of products, such as baseball caps, key chains, and customer clothing, for automotive companies like Jaguar and Land Rover.
When Unipart set up the Merchandise division, they saw a need for Automated Direct Debit Instruction Services (AUDDIS) to help with payment collection. They were particularly concerned about complying with the Direct Debit scheme rules. Lloyds Bank, which helped Unipart with a bulk migration of Direct Debits, recommended that the company speak with Bottomline Technologies about software for automating Direct Debit processes and ensuring compliance.
Bottomline Technologies PayCentre
Unipart compared platforms from two companies and selected Bottomline’s PayCentre®. The software was particularly appropriate for them, because they were new to Direct Debit and needed to ensure they managed Direct Debit workflows for AUDDIS compliance. For example, PayCentre automatically generates correspondence for Unipart’s Direct Debit customers in the time specified in Direct Debit scheme rules.
The PayCentre Direct Debit module processes payments and reconciles reports from Bacs automatically. It creates payment plans to suit individual costumers and instantly validates bank account details. Additionally, it includes a built-in script that employees can follow to ensure they comply with paperless Direct Debit rules.
The combination of PayCentre and Direct Debit helped Unipart simplify payment collection and improve company cash flow for an estimated cost savings of £50,000 a year. With PayCentre, Unipart ensured compliance with Direct Debit scheme rules and reduced the time for a typical collection run to one hour. Automatic Bacs reports made changes, such as amending bank account details, easier. PayCentre also reduced errors by checking account details as employees entered them.
In the Customer’s Own Words
“It’s just incredible that I can do an entire collection run in the space of an hour. It would be very time consuming to produce the letters manually and to insert ad hoc amounts.”
