Virgin Media consolidates operations with scalable payment management solution
Virgin Media is the leading entertainment and communications company in the UK and operates the country’s largest mobile virtual network. It is the biggest Virgin brand in the UK and one of the largest residential broadband providers with a fibre optic cable network that reaches half of all UK homes. Virgin Media also pioneered demand content to become the second largest payTV provider in the UK.
Virgin Media’s Billing and Collection Services department not only deals with nearly 10 million customers, but undertakes the enormous task of billing for payTV, broadband, and mobile and fixed line telephony to customers who pay monthly by check, credit card, debit card, or direct debit. The department needed to integrate multiple billing systems that were in place before Virgin Media launched in 2007. They wanted an engaged partner who shared their commitment to process and efficiency improvement in a constantly evolving landscape.
Bottomline Technologies WebSeries
Bottomline’s WebSeries® offered a breadth and depth of functionality, including high security, full disaster recovery, and the ability to reformat input files and easily transmit to Bacs. After a year of using WebSeries to streamline and manage payment processes, Virgin Media merged NTL and Telewest into one fully integrated business operation.
Implementing the merger into their payment processing required the further consolidation of two existing WebSeries systems into one unified solution capable of dealing with ever-greater transaction volumes. They selected Bottomline based on the dependable working partnership they had established with the company. Bottomline’s professional execution and proactive support services made them a prime candidate for a forthcoming consolidation of Virgin Mobile’s Bacstel platform with the main system.
With one intelligent system replacing disparate networks, efficiency increased dramatically in the billing and collections department. WebSeries’ automation substantially reduced errors along with associated costs and delays. The intricate architecture of Bottomline’s payment solutions ensured the necessary scalability for extensive transactional volumes. By using a single integrated system, Virgin Media experienced a sharp drop in support and maintenance needs and disaster recovery protection for a critically important financial application.
