Customer Overview

Shepherd Center is a private, not-for-profit hospital specializing in the treatment, research, and rehabilitation of people with spinal cord and brain injuries, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain, and other neurological disorders. Located in Atlanta, Georgia, Shepherd Center is ranked among the top 10 rehabilitation centers in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.


Customer Challenge

Shepherd Center needed to upgrade its back-office check payment system to meet rapid growth demands and to simplify disbursements that required time-consuming manual intervention. They wanted a solution that would easily adapt to special check requests and to organizational changes without requiring IT involvement.


Bottomline’s Payments and Cash Management Solution

Shepherd Center selected Bottomline Technologies C-Series, a payments and cash management solution, over three other vendor offerings. The executive committee liked its clean, easy-to-use interface and centralized management and were impressed by the positive feedback they received from references.

Bottomline worked closely with Shepherd Center to ensure the solution met stringent regulation requirements. They also helped resolve a hidden point of failure problem in the clinic’s check printing process. Bottomline now manages all check processing, seamlessly integrating with the clinic’s new financial system.

Bottomline’s payment and cash management solution provided straightforward pre-packaged integration to Lawson Financials and payroll, and allowed easy incorporation of patient and payer refunds. Adding and modifying new output systems and payment types, helped support the hospitals diverse and changing needs.


Results

Bottomline payments and cash management solution has significantly improved Shepherd Center’s check reprinting and inquiry process productivity. Finance staff can now easily manage special check runs on their own, saving hours of time and manual effort, and without impact on the Lawson users. Shepherd Center will soon add Bottomline’s payroll check capabilities to support independent processing of AP and payroll checks.
