What is a SUN or (Bacs) Service User Number?
This is the unique identifier that all businesses use to collect direct debit payments from their customers. This number is stored to record each transaction and is used by Banks to find the business name displayed on the bank statement of the direct debit payer.
Do we need our own Service User Number to start collecting Direct Debits?
No you don’t. As a direct debit provider, Bottomline can arrange one for you on your behalf as part of our service, so you can start collecting direct debits from your customers immediately.
Are there any monthly or annual fees to your direct debit collection service?
If you are a business just starting out, there are no monthly or annual fees. It works on a pay-as-you-go system, where you pay 50p for every direct debit you collect.
If you are a business that requires a larger volume of direct debit collections, we charge £50 per month and a reduced rate of 40p per direct debit collected. This option is mainly for businesses with more frequent collection schedules. If you have lots of payers or are considering moving direct debit provider, we can discuss your requirements to ensure you get the very best service appropriate to your business.
Can I easily change direct debit provider?
Yes, you can easily change direct debit payment provider.

Can I collect one-off payments from a direct debit provider?
As a direct debit provider, Bottomline Managed Direct Debit for business is designed specifically for both one-off and recurring payments. How soon can I get access to the money that has been collected?
As soon as the direct debits have cleared – normally 3 days after collection – you can access the money.
Is there a charge if I want to change
the amount of direct debits I collect from my customers?
There is no charge for changing the amount of direct debits your business collect from your customers. With direct debit, you can change the collection dates and direct debit amounts whenever you like, so you retain complete control and flexibility of your cash flow.
When can we recharge unpaid direct debits?
If you do have an unpaid direct debit from a customer, you can easily recharge it. You can also reach out to the customer and arrange to change the collection date if that would suit them better. This will help ensure funds are available at the required time.
Can we have our company name on our customer’s bank statements?
Yes of course.
